About Me
Hi, I’m Erin.
I’m a mom of three amazing kids—and I’m also a widow. We lost my husband, their dad, to melanoma. And since then, the sun has never looked quite the same.
We were an outdoors family. Hiking trails, water, bike riding, playing in the backyard—you name it, we were out there. We loved the sunshine. But melanoma changed our lives forever, and I knew I had to find a new way to keep that connection to nature… without putting my family at risk.
That’s how Brave in the Shade was born.
This blog is my way of honoring his memory and building a sun-smart life with my kids. It’s about living boldly and lovingly, without burning—literally or emotionally. Here, I share:
- Outdoor adventures done the safe way
- Real reviews of sun-protective products and gear
- Stories about grief, motherhood, and healing
- And honest reminders that prevention matters
I don’t believe in fear—but I do believe in awareness. And I believe we can protect our skin and our joy at the same time.
Whether you’ve walked a similar path or you’re just looking for ways to keep your family sun-safe—I’m truly glad you’re here
Let’s be bold. Let’s be safe.
Let’s be brave—in the shade.
