Be bold. Don’t burn.
Life wasn’t supposed to look like this.
We were an outdoors family. Weekends meant hiking, swimming, golfing—anything that got us under the open sky. We loved the sunshine. But cancer doesn’t care how strong or kind someone is. My husband passed away from melanoma, and ever since, the sun has felt different.
I didn’t want to stop exploring—I couldn’t. Nature is where I still feel closest to him. But I knew I had to do things differently. I had to be smarter. I had to be safer.
That’s why I created Brave in the Shade.
This blog is my way of honoring his memory by continuing to live fully—with intention. It’s a space where I’ll share:
- Outdoor adventures that prioritize sun safety
- Real reviews of sunscreens, UPF clothing, hats, and more
- Melanoma awareness and prevention tips
- And the honest, messy, beautiful truth of life after loss
I’m not here to scare anyone away from the sun. I’m here to say: you can love the outdoors and protect yourself. You can be bold, curious, active, joyful—and still wear your SPF and your big floppy hat.
Whether you’re chasing your kids through a trail, walking your dog, or sitting under a tree with a good book—I’m so glad you’re here.
